197th   EUROPEAN   STUDY   GROUP   with   INDUSTRY

TECHNICAL   UNIVERSITY   OF   DENMARK

May 18-22     2026

Information

ESGI (European Study Group with Industry) is Europe's leading workshop bringing together mathematicians and industrial companies. These week-long workshops have been held annually since 1968 and were previously known as the Oxford Study Groups with Industry.   They attract leading mathematicians to work on industrial problems.

Companies submit mathematical problems for the study group to solve; often in the form of a modelling problem or an optimization problem. Participants work in groups around each problem, presenting the results of their efforts to industry at the end of the week.   A technical report on each problem is written and given to the companies.

Important facts

Participating companies pay a fee for having a problem treated at the workshop.

There is no participation fee for academics and Ph.D. students.

Registration: Due to limited resources there is an upper bound on the number of participants. To apply for participation, go to the Registration Page. Here you can make a request for reservation at the hotel Four Points Flex by Sheraton Lyngby.   Hotel reservation is limited to availability and our funding paying for the hotel accommodation. During the ESGI participants will get lunch and dinner.   Confirmation of participation will be announced on April 20.

PhD Course

Ph.D. students can get ECTS credit (2.5 ECTS) for participation in the study group and active engagement in report delivery. Most reports are subsequently pubilshed through the Cambridge University Press repository MIIR (Math In Industry Reports).
